Final Fantasy X|X-2 HD Remaster Officially Announced

“Listen to my story… This may be our last chance.” Rather, our second chance!

It has been over 11 years since Final Fantasy X was first released, and nearly 1 and a half years since Square Enix announced that they would be bringing the game back for the PS3/Vita to commemorate the 10-year anniversary of the game. Since then we have been virtually in the dark until these past few weeks.

During the middle of February, Square Enix revealed what FFX would look like on the Vita in a surprise announcement that gave us a peak at what to expect (and almost a subtle nod to let us know that they hadn’t forgotten about it). Now, as if they’ve been building up an Overdrive to unleash upon us all, we have gotten a flurry of info to the title, along with news we all hoped for but didn’t entirely expect.

Robert Peeler, the Community Manager over at Square Enix North America, announced in a blog today that the game has been officially titled “Final Fantasy X|X-2 HD Remaster”, and as the name implies, we will not only have the beloved Final Fantasy X remastered in HD but we will also have Final Fantasy X-2 remastered as well! As if that wasn’t enough, they will both be the international versions, which up until now were inaccessible for those of us in the States (unless of course you modded your PS2 to play PAL region discs or your know your way about emulation and have a decent enough PC rig). This news was accompanied by a few screenshots that gave just a sample of what the game will look like in all its HD glory!

The news came with only a slight disappointment, which is that the Vita version of the remaster will have the two games sold separately rather than on one cartridge. Also, no news yet as to whether or not there will be a Cross Buy option, but considering the cames will not be sold together on the Vita this would seem somewhat unlikely.

The games are said to be released sometime this year, and preorders are already available through Amazon. In the mean time, you can view the official website and Facebook for the remaster, which are now live as well! As you can see from the website, there is an announcement trailer planned to be revealed that can be viewed on the website beginning March 25th! Stay tuned for more on that when it happens! Let’s Blitz!
